Canada’s Northern Gateway pipeline doesn’t stand a chance

Getting the bitumen oil out of Alberta’s oil sands is a hard job. A plan to build a pipeline, Keystone, to the United States faced political opposition and was postponed until 2013. Now, a pipeline to the Pacific and, from there, Asia, is unlikely to become a reality. In the province of British Columbia, where the pipeline must cross, the public isn’t convinced of its benefits. The province’s top executive is breaking up negotiations under election year pressure, and her likely successor in the opposition rejects the deal outright.
