Seven major electricity and nuclear technology companies sent a letter to the UK government last week threatening to pull investments, saying the country’s environmental agenda is too weak. The letter, dated last Thursday, said: “Historically the UK has benefited from being known as a country with low political risk for energy investments. Undermining that reputation would have damaging consequences for the scale of future investments in the UK energy sector. It is important to protect that reputation carefully.” The companies include Siemens, Alstom UK and Mitsubishi Power Systems. Hundreds of millions of pounds are at stake. The firms employ about 17,500 people in Britain.
