America’s most beautiful public lands, seen from space

Today is National Public Lands Day, organized by the National Environmental Education Foundation and promoted by the US National Parks Service as well as conservancy organizations, is designed to inspire volunteer efforts across the country.

While the day (Sept. 22) is meant to focus on small, achievable actions toward the restoration and maintenance of public land throughout the country, seeing the spaces on the largest scale—via satellite and astronaut photos from NASA—is a reminder of how much public land is available to people in the US and how much work is done to maintain it.
