Read: James Comey wants a public hearing “given that he no longer has a security clearance”

Former FBI director James Comey rejected a House Judiciary and Oversight Committees’ invitation to a closed hearing today about the 2016 presidential election, instead suggesting a public meeting.

In a pointed reference to the Trump administration’s controversial withdrawal of his and other Obama appointees’ security clearances, Comey’s lawyer, David Kelley, wrote to the committee: “Given that Mr Comey no longer has a security clearance, we do not anticipate the public setting to present any concerns about the disclosure of classified information.”
