Watch: How to genetically modify an organism with CRISPR

By Meghan McDonough

Josiah Zayner is the CEO of The ODIN, which sells do-it-yourself kits that teach people how to genetically modify bacteria and frogs. We had him demonstrate a kit that uses CRISPR to modify harmless E. coli bacteria.

In 2017, Germany restricted imports of this kit after finding disease-causing bacteria in two of them, though a follow-up risk assessment said the public health threat was low.

Josiah says no one has gotten sick using his kits.
