Photos show what remains after the Notre Dame fire

Now that the flames have died down after the devastating fire at Paris’s Notre Dame cathedral, investigators and are getting their first glimpses to assess the damage done. The spire and roof are gone, but many artifacts of the centuries-old cathedral appear to have survived.

The AP reports that the twin bell towers remain intact as does the cathedral’s massive pipe organ. CNN noted that the massive stained-glass rose windows also survived. A fire-brigade chaplain reportedly saved the prized Crown of Thorns relic.

Investigators, still waiting to make an overall assessment on structural integrity, are studying how much the intense heat affected the stone structure.
