China formally expels disgraced politician Bo Xilai from party

The Chinese Communist Party has expelled Bo Xilai, the former party leader in Chongqing province, as well as Liu Zhijun, the former railways minister, both of whom have been accused of corruption. Their expulsion sets the stage for formal charges and a criminal trial, and comes on the eve of the party congress that begins on Nov. 8th, when a new leadership will be unveiled.
