The US Joint Strike Fighter program is projected to cost two-thirds of the war in Afghanistan

The New York Times reports that the F-35 Joint Strike Fighter, produced for the United States military by Lockheed Martin, could fall victim to budget cuts. Including research and development, the program is already projected to cost $396 billion for 2,443 planes. As the Times notes, that’s two-thirds of the $589 billion spent on the war in Afghanistan.
