After an uproar over the company’s planned change of service, Instagram announced that, where advertising was concerned, it would revert to its previous terms. “Going forward, rather than obtain permission from you to introduce possible advertising products we have not yet developed, we are going to take the time to complete our plans, and then come back to our users and explain how we would like for our advertising business to work,” wrote Kevin Systrom, the co-founder of Instagram, in a blog post. The controversy over whether Instagram’s new terms allowed the company to sell users photos for advertising had unleash a flurry of backlash on social media and driven traffic to other photo sharing apps.
