A Los Angeles wildfire turned a freeway into a Hollywood apocalypse scene

By David Yanofsky
Published

A 30-acre wildfire in southern California crossed an interstate highway yesterday (July 17), trapping cars and stranding drivers. Travelers were forced to abandon their cars and trucks as the flames approached. By the time firefighters were able to get the fire under control in the area, it had burned at least 20 vehicles and given two people minor injuries.

The real-life scene resembled the oft-repeated—but fictional—Hollywood trope of a destroyed California.
