Maps on iPhones generated 4x more revenue for Google than Android – until now

Why did Apple ditch Google in favor of its own, apparently inferior, maps solution? Probably because it was tired of paying Google $500 million a year – or more than $2 billion since the launch of iPhone – for its maps.
