The Wikipedia page of things banned in Russia may soon include Wikipedia itself

Russia’s media regulator, Roskomnadzor, is threatening to ban Wikipedia due to an entry about that contains a recipe for charas, a form of hashish.

Roskomnadzor sent a letter to the online encyclopedia’s administrators that threatens to block the entire site if they refuse to take down the entry, following a court ruling on the post in late June, Meduza reports. The agency also posted the warning on its VKontakte page, similar to Facebook.

The agency claims that it can’t just block one article due to Wikipedia’s security protocols, and would have to shut down the entire site.

Earlier this month, the agency briefly blocked Reddit for a thread on growing magic mushrooms.

Internet censorship in Russia has ramped up in recent years. Websites that have more than 3,000 users per day have to register with Roskomnadzor.
