The Pope’s one sentence about immigration got a standing ovation from US Congress

Legislators on both sides of the aisle applauded when Pope Francis appealed to them as descendants of immigrants.

Speaking to a joint meeting of the US Congress, the pope advocated for those who leave their homes in search of opportunity and refugees fleeing conflict.

“We must not be taken aback by their numbers, but rather view them as persons, seeing their faces and listening to their stories, trying to respond as best we can to their situation,”  he said.
