Edward Snowden is finally on Twitter—and he only follows one other account

NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden dipped a toe into the Twitterverse today (Sept. 29), with a verified account that is only following one other: The US National Security Agency.

As The Intercept noted, Snowden’s new Twitter presence comes after he engaged in an interview with astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson:

“You kind of need a Twitter handle. So like @Snowden, maybe? Is this something you might do?” Tyson asked.
“That sounds good, I think we’ve got to make it it happen,” Snowden replied.
“You and I will be Twitter buddies,” Snowden told Tyson. “Your followers will be: the Internet, me, and the NSA.”

And Snowden, who amassed more than 100,000 followers in less than an hour, cracked wise in response:
