These designers use human hair instead of wood to create objects

What if we could use human hair to replace finite materials used in luxury design, such as wood, horn and tortoiseshell?

A team of designers from Studio Swine decided to experiment with this idea. As you can see in the video above, they combined hair with a natural resin to create a moldable material. Then they used it to make home furnishings and accessories, such as combs. The hair creates a beautiful pattern that makes the material resemble polished horn or exotic hardwood.

Although the material isn’t intended for mass production, the designers said it could be used on a mass scale. And that could mean a lot to countries like China, for example, which is one of the world’s biggest importers of tropical hardwood—and exporters of human hair.
