Most Republican voters are embarrassed by the GOP presidential campaign

Perhaps it’s not surprising in a campaign season that has been dominated by putdowns and penis jokes, but Republican party voters are not feeling very proud of the Grand Old Party this election season.

A New York Times/CBS News national poll released yesterday (Mar. 21) found that 60% of Republican primary voters said the campaign had made them feel “mostly embarrassed” about their party’s presidential campaign, with 27% “mostly proud.” Among Democrats, 13% feel embarrassed and 82% feel proud.

Among poll respondents of both parties, the possibility of a Trump presidency elicited the most fear:
