The case for public ownership of Google Reader

When governments nationalize failing banks, they are acting to maintain the unprofitable service that’s important to society—like payment processing and your checking account—not the risky speculation. Similar logic could lead governments to consider a variety of services, including RSS and now-shuttered Google Reader, better suited as public utilities than private enterprise.
