Bernie Sanders scores an upset win in the Indiana primary—but it’s not enough

Vermont senator Bernie Sanders won the Indiana primaries today (May 4), earning 53% of votes in the election over Hillary Clinton’s 47%, according to data from AP.

The victory marks a much-needed victory for Sanders supporters keen to prove their candidate’s appeal. But it won’t do much help Sanders win the Democratic primary.

Sanders won 42 delegates in Indiana, while Clinton won 36. But from Indiana onwards, Sanders needed to win more than 65% of the remaining delegates to just to pull even with Clinton.

At present, Clinton leads with 2,203 delegates, while Sanders has just 1,390, and Clinton only needs 180 more to clinch the nomination.
