Stanford researchers just learned that an airbag for your head might be safer than traditional helmets

Imagine a helmet that you don’t have to actually wear on your head. Instead it’s a scarf that goes around your neck and deploys an airbag helmet when you’re about to crash. The scarf has sensors inside that can detect possible impact, and automatically inflates.

The helmet is created by the Swedish company Hövding. Stanford University researchers decided to compare the airbag helmets to traditional foam ones. Watch our video to see how they conducted their study and how each type of helmet performed in the test.
