Amazon's 10 most viral items of 2024

In 2024, Amazon’s (AMZN) top-selling products were heavily influenced by social media, with certain categories standing out thanks to platforms like TikTok.

According to an analysis from software company Omnisend, some items went more viral than others. Categories such as beauty and personal care, groceries, and even auto parts dominated TikTok’s viral scene, while electronics and camera gear saw less engagement.

The study analyzed Amazon’s best-sellers across 24 categories and their presence on TikTok. It compiled data on prices, reviews, and sales, while also tracking TikTok’s metrics on hashtags, video views, and influencer engagement. An “Influencer Index” ranked TikTok’s impact by category, and a survey of over 2,000 U.S. social media users provided insights to link Amazon sales with TikTok trends.

TikTok’s quick 10 to 15 second videos, focused on reviews and recommendations, proved to be effective at capturing attention. However, the study suggests that just because a product goes viral doesn’t mean it will stick in consumers’ minds.

Generational preferences also played a significant role in which products went viral. Gen-Z was drawn to beauty, personal care, and fitness, while Millennials favored improvement tools, kitchen gadgets, and automotive items. Baby boomers preferred hobby-related items like musical instruments and games.

Now, let’s take a look at Amazon’s 10 most viral items in 2024, including their average sales.
