When disaster strikes, you want to make sure your home is protected. But how are you supposed to know which home insurance company makes sense for you and your family?
Consumer Reports surveyed its members to identify the best ones, asking them to rate their insurance on price of premiums, service, policy clarity, coverage, and other factors.
Among the top five, no company scored more than a three out of five for the premium price. That’s no surprise. According to Bankrate, the average cost is now $2,424 per year for a home worth $300,000. And a study from the Department of Treasury found that home insurance increased approximately 8% faster than inflation between 2018 and 2022 — and it’s only risen since, including a 11.4% rise in 2024 alone.
