A range hood may not seem important, but it's often the first thing people see when they walk into your kitchen. Plus, having proper ventilation in your kitchen is crucial, especially if you have a gas stove.

Luckily for us, Consumer Reports compiled a list of the five best range hoods.

“A good vented range hood improves air circulation in your kitchen, our tests have found,” CR wrote. “It also eliminates odors and cuts down on cleaning time, too, because grease droplets that would otherwise settle on cabinets, countertops, and, well, anything else within range are sucked out of the room by the range hood.”

If you’re looking for a cheaper under the range hood that’s still CR recommended, go with the Vissani 30" Under Cabinet Range Hood QR254S, which costs $179. “The fan is efficient, and the model does a great job of lighting whatever you’re cooking on your range,” CR said. “It’s a bit on the noisy side, but none of the under-cabinet models we tested is truly quiet.

Frigidaire 30" Wall Mounted Range Hood FHWC3055LS

It wrote that the Frigidaire is “the single best choice for serious cooks who love to sear on the stovetop.” But be warned: it’s loud — the loudest of all the models on the list. It costs between $400 and $718, depending on the model.

While not as highly related, the Cosmo Appliances 30" Wall Mount Range Hood 63175S starts around $250, which is a great deal for a wall-chimney range hood. “It lags a little behind the Frigidaire when it comes to the volume of air moved, but it still performed admirably in that test, and it’s reasonably quiet,” CR wrote.
