The compact SUVs with the most trunk space, according to Consumer Reports

Even small SUVs are getting bigger — but what about their trunk space? 

To find out, Consumer Reports created a list of compact SUVs it tested that have the most trunk space. These vehicles, especially with the back seats down, have plenty of room to go around.

Starting at $29,450, the Tucson tops this list with 39 cu. ft. of cargo space — enough to outhaul many three-row midsized SUVs. It gets 26 mpg overall.

From $29,995, the Forester opens up 38 cu. ft. with the seats down and gets a solid 29 mpg overall. Four large suitcases fit behind the raised back seat.

Starting at $28,790, the Sportage delivers 38 cu. ft. with seats folded and 25 mpg overall. With seats up, it accommodates four suitcases and two duffel bags.

From $30,920, the CR-V yields 37 cu. ft. with seats folded and 26 mpg combined. Four full-size suitcases fit with the back seats up.

Starting at $29,090, the Rogue offers 36.5 cu. ft. of storage and returns 25 mpg overall — a well-rounded package at an accessible price point.

From $29,900, the CX-50 provides 34 cu. ft. with seats folded and 24 mpg overall, giving you plenty of room for luggage and more.

Starting at $43,245, the plug-in hybrid Outlander manages 32 cu. ft. and 25 mpg overall after its 38 miles of electric-only range runs out. It also seats seven.

From $30,350, the Escape Hybrid is one of the most fuel-efficient options here at 34 mpg combined. Seats folded yields 31 cu. ft. of cargo room.
