India’s finance minister has delivered two budgets—both in colours of #TheDress

Indian finance minister Arun Jaitley wore a blue Nehru jacket today to present his second union budget. Last year, the man of the hour donned a gold ethnic jacket—a typical sleeveless waistcoat.

Coincidence?

A day after The Dress broke the internet—and caused a collective frenzy over whether the dress was blue and black or white and gold—Jaitley carried the true colours to send his government’s message. Blue and black.

As soon as his first photographs in the media started emerging, even before he started the budget speech, the colour of his waistcoat generated buzz on social media .

Though Jaitley’s sartorial choice was resolutely the colour of the dress, prime minister Narendra Modi might have inadvertently clouded the picture. He wore gold.
