On Monday, Oct. 26, a powerful earthquake struck Afghanistan and northern Pakistan.

Estimated at 7.5 on the Richter scale, the earthquake devastated homes and schools, and even cracked glaciers in a nearby mountain range, Pakistani authorities told the BBC. More than 360 people are known to have died so far, and the death toll is likely to rise.

The portraits of victims and survivors below were shot by AP photographers in northern Pakistan, near the epicenter of the quake.
