Kia and Genesis have issued separate recalls covering a combined 235,792 vehicles over a fuel leak that raises the risk of an engine fire. Both recalls were filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on April 10.

The Kia recall covers 141,032 Carnival minivans from the 2022 through 2026 model years. The Genesis recall applies to 94,760 vehicles across four models: the 2021–2025 G80 and GV80, the 2022–2026 GV70, and the 2023–2025 G90.

At the center of both recalls is the same component: a crossover fuel pipe that bridges the two fuel rails. As Carscoops reports, the fasteners securing that pipe are prone to working loose, which can let fuel escape and raise the risk of an engine fire. Reports of a fuel odor and leakage around the high-pressure crossover pipe on certain Carnival models first reached Kia in January 2025. On the Genesis side, two incidents of leaking or fuel odor surfaced in July 2024, and it was a third complaint that autumn that triggered a formal investigation.

Neither automaker has reported any fires or accidents linked to the defect. Across the two campaigns, Carscoops tallied 387 complaints in total — 258 under the Kia recall and 129 under Genesis. Kia estimates that only about 1% of the recalled vehicles will exhibit the problem.

Under the fix outlined by Cars.com, service technicians will check the crossover pipe for signs of leakage; loose fasteners will be torqued down, and any pipe found to be actively leaking will be swapped out — all at no charge to the vehicle owner. Owners of affected Kia vehicles should expect mailed notices beginning June 2, while Genesis plans to send its letters out starting June 8.

For additional information, Kia owners may reach the automaker at 800-333-4542, referencing recall number SC368; Genesis customers can call 844-340-9741, citing recall number 033G. The NHTSA's vehicle-safety hotline is available at 888-327-4236, and the agency's website allows owners to look up their vehicle identification number.

Both Kia and Genesis are brands under the Hyundai Motor Group. Kia ranked among the automakers with the most recalls in the first three quarters of 2025, with more than 726,000 vehicles recalled during that period.
