Ram is recalling 65,000 trucks over a software glitch that can freeze dashboard displays

The defect affects 2025-2026 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 models and can cause instrument panels to go dark while driving

Stellantis $STLA subsidiary FCA US is recalling 65,348 Ram trucks after a software error may cause the instrument panel display to fail, according to a notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Among the vehicles subject to the recall, Autoblog reports, are 2025 and 2026 model year Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 trucks assembled during a production window running from Aug. 9, 2024 through July 4, 2025. At the root of the problem is a faulty software error affecting a 3.5-inch instrument panel cluster that Marelli North America supplies for these trucks, which is susceptible to shutting down either before the vehicle gets moving or once it is already on the road. About 1% of the recalled vehicles are estimated to have the defect, Autoblog reported.

A darkened display leaves motorists without visibility into critical readouts — including the gear position indicator, brake and stability control warnings, and tire pressure status — and the NHTSA filing warns that driving without this information "may cause a driver to operate a vehicle in a compromised condition, which can increase the risk of a crash without prior warning." The vehicles fail to comply with seven Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards as a result.

FCA US said no accidents or injuries linked to the malfunction have been reported, according to USA Today. Dealers are authorized to perform a software update on the instrument panel at no cost to vehicle owners.

Ram is scheduled to send written notification to affected owners on May 28, 2026, though drivers who want to check their status sooner can search their VIN on NHTSA.gov starting April 16, 2026. FCA customer service is also reachable at 1-800-853-1403; owners should reference recall number 35D.

This is not the first time Ram has issued a recall over instrument panel software on these model years. That earlier action, which covered roughly 72,000 pickups and chassis cab models, targeted a different software bug tied to the larger 12-inch instrument panel display — a component that, like its 3.5-inch counterpart in the current recall, was sourced from Marelli North America.

Stellantis was among the most active automakers for recalls in 2025, issuing notices covering more than 1.4 million vehicles in the first three quarters of that year, which included hundreds of thousands of Jeep Wranglers and Chrysler Pacificas.
