Toyota recalls 73,000 Corolla Cross Hybrids over pedestrian warning sounds
Affected vehicles may not make sufficient noise when reversing, violating federal safety standards

Toyota $TM is recalling more than 73,000 Corolla Cross Hybrid SUVs from model years 2023 through 2025 because the vehicles may not produce adequate pedestrian warning sounds when in reverse, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
The agency said the vehicles do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 141, which sets minimum sound levels for hybrid and electric cars, according to Fox Business. Without sufficient warning sounds when reversing, pedestrians may not hear the car coming and could be at risk of injury.

A software update will be applied to affected vehicles by Toyota dealers at no cost to owners. Letters notifying owners of the issue are scheduled to go out no later than May 30, 2026. The recall numbers are 26TB08 and 26TA08.
Despite the recall covering 73,528 vehicles, the agency estimates only about 1% actually exhibit the defect.
Toyota was among the automakers with the most vehicle recalls in the first three quarters of 2025. The company ranked second overall, recalling more than 1.4 million vehicles during that period, many tied to a software issue with backup parking assistance cameras.
