Wendy's will offer bacon cheeseburgers for only a penny. Here's when to get them

New Year's Resolutions don't go into effect for a few more days. Squeeze out a little holiday excess while there's still time

Wendy's $WEN

Yes, you've gorged on holiday cookies, rich meals, and a ridiculous amount of wine and other holiday cheer in the past month, but Dec. 30 is National Bacon Day. And Wendy's $WEN is hoping you're not quite ready to start paring back.

The fast food chain will offer a Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger to customers for just one cent on Dec. 30. To take advantage of the offer, you'll need to grab the Wendy's app and order through there. (As you might guess, this offer does not apply to orders placed via DoorDash, Uber $UBER Eats, and similar services.)

Bacon might not be the healthiest of foods, but it certainly has a loyal following. The Foundation for Economic Education think tank found that Americans spend around $5 billion per year on the salty snack, which was once considered solely a breakfast staple, and consume a jaw-dropping 18 pounds per person per year. As the group points out, that's a little less than the weight of a car tire.

Wendy's has certainly embraced it, selling not only the Jr. Bacon Cheeseburger, but the Baconater, which features six slices of bacon atop a beef patty, a nutritionist's nightmare and a cardiologist's revenue stream.

Wendy's is the first to roll out its National Bacon Day deals, but likely won't be the last. Other restaurants typically have some offer, including Burger King (which has given away free Bacon Cheeseburgers via its app), Jack in the Box, and Buffalo Wild Wings.

And if you can't wait for National Bacon Day to get your (almost) free bacon fix, head over to your local Five Guys and order a milkshake. You can add bacon bits to that for no charge year round.
